Who are we?
St Andrews Lawn Tennis Club has been at the heart of this town's sporting life for over a century.
Between 1923 and 1981, our courts hosted the Scottish Hard Court Championships, putting St Andrews on the national tennis map alongside its more famous golfing reputation. For generations, families, students, juniors and seasoned players have learned the game, competed and belonged here.
Today, with seven outdoor floodlit courts and three mini courts in Kinburn Park, we remain one of the most welcoming clubs in Fife. Tennis for under-12s is completely free. We run coaching for all ages, host monthly tournaments, and welcome everyone from complete beginners to competitive league players. We are more than a sports club, we are a place where people connect, stay active and feel they belong.
Now, we are writing the next chapter.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Four of our courts have reached the end of their safe playing life. The surfaces are cracked, uneven and increasingly difficult to maintain. Without investment, playing quality, accessibility and safety will decline - threatening the future of tennis at St Andrews.
We are raising £100,000 to convert these courts into modern artificial clay - a surface that honours our historic roots in the Scottish Hard Court Championships while offering a future-ready solution for Scottish conditions. Clay provides safer movement, better drainage in wet weather, longer playing seasons and a surface that is genuinely kinder on joints - making it ideal for players of all ages and abilities, returners and anyone new to the sport.
But this campaign is about more than courts. We are also investing in a complete digital transformation of how the club operates - launching a new online booking system, building a modern club website with event management and sponsor engagement tools, and creating the infrastructure to run a sustainable, growing, community-focused club for decades to come.
This crowdfunder gives our whole community the chance to be part of the transformation. Every pound helps protect nearly 100 years of tennis heritage while building something lasting, inclusive and open to everyone.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We believe in complete transparency. Every pound raised goes directly towards the court transformation and club development.
Our £100,000 target covers:
Court transformation (core investment) Removal of the existing end-of-life court surfaces, ground preparation and base works, installation of four all-year artificial clay courts, and new line marking, net systems and finishing works.
Community programme development Expanding our free under-12s programme, introducing structured monthly tournaments, supporting adaptive tennis sessions, and building partnerships with local schools and community groups.
Every contribution, whether £5 or £500, helps lay the foundations for safer, longer-lasting and more inclusive tennis in St Andrews.
Community impact
This is not just a club project. It is a community investment.
Children and young people - We already offer completely free tennis for under-12s. Better courts and an easy to use booking system mean more children can play, more often, with less hassle for parents and coaches.
Students and young adults - Affordable, year-round access to high-quality courts right in the centre of town. Our new digital booking platform will make it easier than ever to find a court, join a session or sign up for coaching.
Older players and returners - Clay is one of the most forgiving surfaces in tennis. It cushions impact, reduces joint strain and gives confidence to anyone coming back to the sport or picking it up for the first time.
Inclusive and adaptive tennis - Improved court surfaces and digital accessibility open the door for wheelchair users and adaptive play, helping us deliver on our commitment that tennis at St Andrews is genuinely for everyone.
The wider town - A revitalised, welcoming community hub in Kinburn Park. A place where people meet, move and belong - not just a place where people play tennis.

Going Digital - A club for the modern era
Behind the scenes, SALTC is undergoing a quiet (r)evolution.
Our committee member Pranav Murali, a data and technology professional based in St Andrews, has been leading a comprehensive digital transformation of the club building a complete operations platform at www.standrewsltc.com that brings together everything we need to run a modern, efficient and welcoming tennis club.
The platform already powers our events calendar, coaching RSVP system, sponsor management and administrative dashboard. A brand-new online court booking system is now in development, designed to replace the old paper-and-phone process with something members can use from their phone in seconds.
This is the kind of digital infrastructure that larger clubs take for granted. For a community club like ours, having it built bespoke by someone who understands our needs and cares about our future is transformational. It means less admin for volunteers, better communication with members, easier access for newcomers, and a professional platform that helps us attract sponsors and funding.
Pranav has contributed all of this work pro bono, alongside building similar digital platforms for community organisations including a heritage real tennis club, an international school and a charity grants platform used by hundreds of UK organisations. His work at SALTC is part of a broader commitment to using technology to strengthen community organisations that would otherwise never have access to these tools.
