St Andrew's has no X-ray machine that is vital for treating many of the 16000 patients that are treated there every year, the nearest X-ray machine is 25km away at the district hospital, but this facility is overwhelmed by patient numbers and the old X-ray machine is often not working for several months at a time, leading to patients having to travel around 80 km to the next-nearest facility with a reliable X-ray machine.
The Malawi Ministry of Health (MOH) have informed St Andrew's they have been selected to have an X-ray machine provided to them funded by the government if they can provide a suitable room within the facility to house the machine. They have also stated that St Andrew’s must confirm they are able to provide this suitable room within the next two weeks or the ministry of health will have to allocate the X-ray machine to another facility.
We have only a short window of time to secure the funding needed to help St Andrew's get the X-ray machine that is urgently needed to treat patients.
To enable the alterations to the room at St Andrew’s Hospital we are looking to raise the following funding:

The alterations would involve extending an existing empty room (identified already), alterations to the roof structure, raising wall heights to 3m, construction of a smaller room within the existing room and increasing the wall thicknesses to a minimum of 450mm.
