Who are Squidmoo est mmxx

We are Tom, Lex and Edie, we make the Squidmoo team as it stands. We are three  plastic free enthusiasts that want to make a positive imprint on the planet, and we are starting in our beloved hometown in Portsmouth. 

We have been on a journey to reduce our plastic usage and waste in general through using reusable products, conscious purchasing and generally reducing consumption. Now we have a brand new concept and need your help.........

We need a fundamental shift away from single-use products towards reusable items.

Now that it's clear the coffee culture is huge and even more so as highlighted with the recent lockdowns, we are pretty close to the water here and who knows how many of these cups are ending up in the sea.

Did you know the average person in the UK will drink 2 cups of coffee per day which will add up to one person using 730 per year. If we can introduce the WayCup to the population of Portsmouth we could save 173,740,000 cups from being used and thrown into landfill and the sea.

WE HAVE A SOLUTION. It's not a new idea, as our parents/grandparents were doing this for years prior to our generation. We believe the city of Portsmouth can be the lead runners in this mission

We have teamed up with the Final Straw Foundation and we want to roll out ‘The Squidmoo Waycup Scheme’

The scheme:

To get the beautiful people of Portsmouth and Southsea to get on board with this and support Portsmouth to be Plastic free by 2030

It will be a return and deposit scheme. We think this is the way forward for reducing the single use coffee cup problem we have in Portsmouth and beyond. 

The cups are made from bamboo fiber and rice husk and will biodegrade in 1-2 years rather than the 20-30 years that the single use paper cups disappear in. Also a key factor is that they are reusable therefore using far less actual cups.

It won't cost the coffee shops or consumers anything unless they decide to keep the cup and not return it to a squidmoo partner cafe to get their money back. Also in these difficult times the coffee shops would benefits from customers purchasing the cups with the profits going to the coffee shops. 

Next steps:

We would like to offer this opportunity to a selection of coffee shops that have similar values to ours in the city. It will be free for coffee shop owners to apply and start up. 

We will run an application process to offer this scheme to 10 successful applicants. For this to work we would need all successful coffee shops to work together and stick to the £10 deposit approach to mirror the recommended retail price of the cups.

Dependant on what place we get and quantity of funding we receive will determine how many cups would be able to go into circulation.

We need to Wake up in a new Way of thinking with the SQUIDMOO WAYCUP SCHEME.

So please make a pledge and help support our local community by pledging just £20 for this you will receive a Squidmoo WayCup and also you will be adding one WayCup into the System and help reduce the use of single use coffee cups
