Our community meals are prepared using seasonal harvest from our gardens, as well as Fareshare foods diverted from landfills. As well as a friendly, relaxed environment in which to sit down and share a meal with other members of the diverse Springburn community, our community meals are an opportunity to learn of our other activities in the area, as well as what further activities are happening in Springburn. Partnership organisations are always invited to attend to share their community events, and our Food Hub Group are in attendance, consulting with the community to shape our plans in the area. We will continue our community meals throughout the year, with plenty of food available to take away for those who prefer.
Our vision is to see a society where health, well-being and harmony is supported within active communities. NGCFI’s purpose is to empower communities to lead practical and sustainable food projects such as community meals, healthy cookery classes, growing food and access to affordable fruit and vegetables. Projects inspire and improve overall health and well- being, promoting community cohesion, whilst celebrating the diverse nature of the communities in North Glasgow.
The project will provide a warm, welcoming space in Springburn where local people can access healthy, hot, pay as you feel meal. Not only do these meals provide nutrition; they provide a welcoming environment. Those socially isolated have the opportunity to eat in company. Community meals bring the community together, giving those in food insecurity dignified access to food. Through volunteering, people will have improved well-being. Increased confidence, self-esteem and feeling valued from playing an active role in their community.

We have seen all of our costs soar due to the cost of living crisis and we need vital funds for food, fuel and operational costs.
Your donation will go directly to a warm community meal this winter. This project will directly support local people and families experiencing poverty throughout the winter and the cost of living crisis.
