SPOTLIGHTS 2023.
After years of writing, and development, Proscenium Productions finally were able to create a completely self-funded workshop production of their musical Spotlights in August 2022. With a story dealing with some tough issues, e.g mental health in young adults, bereavements, financial trouble, and LGBTQ+; it was beautifully complimented with lighter elements of finding love, self discovery and a fair bit of comedy too; there wasn't an dry eye in the house, nor was there a face without a smile.
After selling 70% of tickets with no marketing budget, and a standing ovation, it was clear that there was something special about the project; so much so that a large proportion of the audience gave us feedback to help develop the next stage of the production.
So what is it about us that makes it so special?
We are a team of young people under 20. The entire show was written, directed and funded by young people under 20. Some of the reviews include:
'It was such an entertaining evening, you definitely have some talented writers and performers'
'I seriously commend you all for doing such an incredible job, and I mean it when I say that I look forward to seeing the next thing you do, and watching it get better'
'A good show for teens to watch as it covers a lot of sensitive topics. Well done to everyone involved in bringing this production to the stage!'
And that is just SOME of our great reviews!
And what's next for Spotlights?
In August 2023, we will be bringing an entirely reworked version of Spotlights to The Players' Theatre in Lowestoft. The production and writing team have been working tirelessly from the audience's feedback in order to bring a full length production to you, with more songs and complete new set built especially for this production!
But of course, we need your help!
Our workshop production was entirely self-funded, by our young people working countless hours to put the show on. In a full production, this just simply wouldn't be possible to do; with us looking at a budget of up to £3-£4k; before even thinking about paying the actors.
If everyone in our audience at the workshop production donated just £6, then we would beat our small target of £650 massively; and then with that money, we could pay for at least 40 hours of rehearsal, or we could pay for 80% of our set.
So then if you're not yet convinced, then check out the video above and you can see the journey that was taken to create the musical, as well as seeing some sneak peaks of our songs!
This is your chance to be part of something truly special; this new, original British musical. It has the sort of story where you can laugh, cry, and smile endlessly; and all of our audience told us about how 'uplifted' and 'emotional' they felt after leaving the theatre. So, come and join us on that feeling, hit those reward buttons; why not get a t-shirt or a programme mention out of it? Let us share this story with the world, and trust us when we say, it's gonna be bright!
Thank you to you all in advance,
Proscenium Productions, and for those who know us personally;
Duncan, India, Mia, and Casey x
