Aim

Help us replace our Sports Hall floor. Your support ensures a safe, active, and connected space for our students and entire community.

Who are we?

George Green’s School has been part of the Isle of Dogs since 1828. We are more than a school, we are a community hub.
Every day our spaces bring together students, families and local residents of all ages, including many facing financial hardship, health inequalities and social isolation.

Our Sports Hall is used from morning to evening, seven days a week. It’s where people learn new skills, form friendships, grow in confidence and feel part of something bigger.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our hall has supported thousands of moments: first matches, personal milestones, fitness journeys, and safe spaces for SEND students. But after decades of constant use, the floor is worn and no longer safe.

We don’t want:

Students standing on the sidelines because they don’t feel safe.
Older adults worrying about slips and falls.
Community groups losing a space that means everything to them.

Sport England have kindly pledged over £11.5k to this cause should we be able to crowdfund the other half.

Your support will ensure our hall remains open, safe and accessible for all.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Your support will help us:

  • Remove the old flooring safely
  • Install a new, professional Polyurethane (PU) surface
  • Add multi‑sport line markings
  • Complete all safety and quality checks

This upgrade will benefit thousands of people for many years to come.

The community impact

A new floor will transform opportunities for our entire neighbourhood.
Tower Hamlets is home to 331,000 residents, including 63,000 young people and 20,000 older adults, many of whom face financial pressures and lack access to affordable leisure spaces.

Our hall is already a lifeline to many. We offer low‑cost or free access because we know times are tough.

It supports people who:

  • struggle with loneliness
  • are managing long‑term health conditions
  • need safe, inclusive activities
  • rely on group sessions for their wellbeing

Refreshing the floor means more:

  • safe activities for all ages
  • improved mental wellbeing
  • accessible spaces for SEND learners
  • stronger community connections
  • long‑term healthy habits

Beyond the school day, our space  is filled with:

  • Ladies’ Fitness (35–72)
  • 50+ Men’s Football
  • Girls’ Tennis
  • Junior Badminton
  • SEND sessions
  • Kendo & Tae Kwon Do
  • Scouts & Police Cadets

This isn’t just about sports, it’s about reducing isolation, supporting mental health and creating belonging.
