Aim: Leveraging sport's unifying qualities to address the needs of displaced individuals, fostering positive change in the face of conflict.
Introduction
The global refugee crisis has deepened to record levels. The UNHCR revealed total displacement numbers had surpassed 100 million individuals by 2022 - over 1.2% of the global population. In 2022, Beyond Sport launched the Sport Together Fund (STF) to bring together a sector-wide response to the crisis, leveraging sport to effectively address the multifaceted challenges displaced individuals face.
Our Mission
Sport and physical activity are proven tools for improving the well-being of those undergoing displacement and resettlement, addressing physical, mental, and emotional needs. Through STF, Beyond Sport supports organisations leveraging sport’s unique powers to assist refugees and communities affected by conflict, displacement, human rights violations, and climate change disasters. Through critical funding and capacity-building support, STF aims to empower displaced individuals to rebuild their lives and support the communities they now call home.
How We Help
The Fund provides grants and resources to sports organisations dedicated to assisting refugees, displaced persons, and asylum seekers globally. With the inaugural fund in 2022, we funded:
- Associació Esportiva Ramassà
- Bloomsbury Football
- Girl Power Organisation
- League of Tolerance
- Safe-Hub Berlin
- Te Aud Romania
- Yoga And Sport With Refugees
These initiatives have empowered 235 leaders and coaches, reaching an estimated 24,000 young people annually. The fund has supported beneficiaries from 32 countries, including but not limited to Afghanistan, Ukraine, Somalia, Eritrea, Honduras and Sudan.
Through collaborating with partners such as New Balance Foundation, the Fund supports NGOs promoting well-being, inclusivity, and hope through sports-based opportunities for refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable communities. The organisations supported so far in 2024 include:

Organisations receiving support deliver essential training programmes and support services that facilitate refugee integration and enable the rebuilding of lives at both individual and community levels.

Fundraising Regulation Adherence: Beyond Sport adheres to the policy outlined by the Fundraising Regulator on Using Funds, ensuring that every donation makes a meaningful impact where it's needed most.
Administrative Fee: Beyond Sport will apply a 15% administrative fee to all donations to cover operational costs associated with managing the Sport Together Fund.
