I’m running The Wigan Half Marathon to raise funds for Sport Rebooted who provide various items free of charge to families who are in need
This organisation is now in its 3rd year and was originally created to support children into sport by providing the appropriate footwear. In the first few months they were inundated with requests for trainers & football boots.
Using social media they advertised their organisation and asked friends & family to share their posts, asking for any donations of footwear that people no longer used but were still fit for purpose. These items would help to encourage & support children/adults who just wanted an opportunity to play sports, but through no fault of their own, could not afford the items needed.
The response from the local community was immense, and they’re now in a position to deliver various sporting footwear to numerous children/adults which enabled them to participate in activities like football, rugby, athletics. By recycling these items they were also helping the environment by reducing the number going to landfill.
They now also provide sports clothing like t-shirts, shorts, tracksuits & replica football/rugby shirts.
Over the last couple of years Sport Rebooted have supported over 1000 children/adults. Due to COVID-19 all community sports activities were stopped so they created various projects through the summer and winter periods by providing various equipment like scooters, skateboards, garden games. This maintained their objective to encourage health & wellbeing for the community and also kept the fun factor for children especially through the difficult times when they could not meet up with friends.
The funds raised will help Sport Rebooted to purchase any item that is requested but do not have in stock through the donations collected. There are many people of all shapes and sizes and although we continue to ask the local community they do not always succeed with our requests. This is when they need to purchase the items to take away the financial burden for the families they support.
