Malcolm Arnold was a prolific composer of classical, film and brass band music. In many of his works one of his key aims was to make his music accessible to and playable by amateurs. However, his music is now owned by publishing companies that will charge hundreds of pounds to buy or hire his music for a performance. Amateur orchestras and brass bands often struggle to afford these fees which can, on top of other fees needed to stage a concert e.g. venue fees make it non-viable to perform. Live music is such a life affirming activity not only for the audience but also for the players. Our vision through this project is to make it feasible for ensembles to stage concerts featuring Malcolm’s work to keep his legacy alive and in Malcolm’s own words
