A splash pad is a water playground with interactive sprinklers, fountains and water jets that encourages healthy outdoor play.
The Splash Pad for Ely volunteer campaign group want to provide a free family facility that is accessible to all to be based at the Hive Leisure Centre at Ely Leisure Village on Downham Road.
The build costs for the project are estimated at £350k and we will be looking for various grants as well as sponsorship from local businesses to fund this.
A splash pad appeals to a wide range of ages, from toddlers up to teens. Accessibility will be integral to the design, promoting independence for users of a range of abilities and disabilities. It will be open from Easter to September, depending on the weather, with changing facilities, toilets and a cafe available for use at the Hive.
We really need your help to move this project forward for Ely. At this stage we need to raise money for a feasibility study to check that the site put forward is appropriate for a splash pad. This study will look in detail at factors such as the best size and shape for the splash pad, what landscaping might be needed and how to manage seating and shade, as well as investigating how it will be managed, parking provision and how it can integrate with the existing leisure offering at the Hive.
We need funding to progress with this so we can then apply for planning permission. We are calling on local businesses and the community to rally round and help fund these initial costs, so we can make this dream of a splash pad for Ely a reality.
