Why are we asking for your support?
“I live alone following the death of my husband of 52 years and struggle with anxiety. I live behind my 4 walls but now am not even able to heat the house. Sometimes wonder whether life is worth living" - 78 year old person living in Ernesettle.
Sadly the above story is one of many we are hearing from people who the Plymouth City Wellbeing Hubs are currently supporting.
There is no way to sugar coat the fact that the number of people living in poverty and are socially isolated and unable to cover basic food and heating costs is rising.
For people who are lonely and isolated Christmas is such a difficult time of the year as some of their essential services close for the festive period and this is compounded by images of Christmas and people able to get together with families and friends.
For the third year running Four Greens Community Trust is going into partnership with its other Wellbeing Hub partners, Barnardos, Colebrook SW, Improving Lives Plymouth and Wolseley Trust to provide Christmas Hampers to 150 isolated and lonely people across the City of Plymouth. Our Wellbeing Hub network and partner knowledge of their communities will ensure the hampers will go to those that need it most. In addition, over the Christmas period our befriending service will be contacting over 200 people by telephone for a chat and to hopefully provide some social support and stimulus.
