We're still collecting donations

Flooring, cabling build our Home together
Spark Community Space is a charity based in Southsea. Launched in 2020 by Becki Simmonds, the ideal for Spark developed years after Becki recovered from Brain surgery. Becki says “I was wondering about where I would fit in society and what my new purpose would look like and this drove me to develop Spark, to create a welcoming and inclusive space for anyone who wanted to connect and bring back that ‘spark to their lives’.
Many of Sparks community members have experienced illness, disability, redundancy, bereavement, mental health issues and loneliness. By coming together and forging new and sometimes unexpected friendships, many of Spark’s community members report their weekly meet up as one of their highlights of their week.
Currently Spark meet every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11am – 2pm at Southsea Library, Palmerston Road.
We are opening a community shop where people can come and grow together, gaining skills through volunteering, accessing training in a supportive atmosphere and progressing towards regaining a sense of belonging in society.
Team busy at work at our forever home!
Here is what one of our community members has to say........
We were made aware of Spark by a friend who sent us a link. Spark was only just starting up but we thought it was a fantastic project and something we thought would be great for Karen after her stroke.
We contacted Becki and managed to raise some money for the charity hoping that one day it would be something that Karen could attend.
When Spark first started we would drop in and stay with Karen and we were instantly made welcome. She now gets the bus there and back every Tuesday and it is the highlight of her week. As a family we feel confident to let her go on her own knowing that she is in a friendly safe environment with lovely people.
I had not been to the cafe for a while but a few weeks ago I took Karen and it was amazing to see her so confident and happy with her friends.
Spark has been an amazing support for not only Karen but our whole family.
