Who are we?
Space4 exists to create a place where community can flourish. Across Houghton-le-Spring we are working to challenge food and social poverty.
Our Community Drop-in has been open on the high-street since around 2014; folks can come and rest their legs from shopping, use our wi-fi, have a hot drink with good company or just read a newspaper. At present almost 800 pairs of feet come through our doors each month!
Other noteworthy ventures include our community food store which is providing people affordable food and agency - a much better alternative to what could otherwise be an emergency food parcel. We host toddler groups, after school clubs and are providing school uniforms for those across all local schools.
Community impact
Our Project engages with over 1/20 people across Houghton-le-Spring parish! Our unit on the high-street keeps us accessible with over 2800 likes on our social media page. If Space4 was rubbed off the map I'm unsure where people would find the space for community that we have established.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are currently looking to create a food-hub within our unit where people can get access to hot food in public at a nominal price. This crowdfunding effort will help us off-set the costs for those that would otherwise struggle to access our provision of services.
