Aim

To increase the number of plants in Lymington & Pennington green spaces to provide food for nature & create spaces for our own wellbeing.

Who are we?

We're a local community, green group that has members across the town of Lymington,  Pennington and beyond. Our idea is to use the green spaces in the town, our gardens, allotments and church yards, to create more space for nature.

We also have our own community allotment, where we want to re-seed our wild area for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. We will also look at getting some evening pollinating plants, to attract night time insects.

We want to create a 'buzz.'

Our vision is that these areas will be like 'stepping stones' across the town, linking wilder areas. They will be busy with bees and other pollinators because of the nectar and pollen available. In turn, these insects will be food for hedgehogs, bats, birds and more. In addition, these areas will provide space for ourselves where we can sit and just be, or join in activities with others. 1690995293_gill_dusky_blue_butterfly.jpeg

We will use the money to provide food and homes for our wildlife. We will buy seeds, bulbs, plant plugs and larger plants, plus peat-free compost for planting up. With extra money we will buy items to create bug hotels, bird boxes and bat homes.

£3 will buy us a packet of seeds

£8 will buy us a bag of peat-free compost

£15 buys us wood to make our own bird box

£25 will buy us a big bag of insect attracting bulbs

£50 buys us a kilogram of wildflower seeds that we can split up and giveaway

We want to work with other groups, schools and churches to help spread the word about protecting and creating wilder spaces.

There are reasons why we are doing this:

“In the past 50 years, 56% of all species have declined across the UK – that means our birds, insects, plants, mammals, amphibians, fungi and fish are getting harder to find across our land and sea." The State of Nature report, 2016.

And we want to do something about it -

Quoting the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust  "Every step we take matters. Small actions add up and can make a huge difference for wildlife."
