The Green party of England and Wales is the only party with policies that look after people AND planet. Just by standing in an election we force the other parties to compare their policies to ours and get a fair deal for all and caring for our environment up the political agenda.
It costs £500 per candidate to stand in the general election and in South Tees we have three wonderful candidates for our three constituencies: Ruth Hatton for 'Redcar', Matthew Harris for 'Middlesbrough and Thornaby East' and Rowan McLaughlin 'Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland'.
Unlike the bigger political parties we rely on donations from ordinary people not big businesses with vested interests. This keeps us honest and focused on the issues that matter most to local people. We are currently involved in campaigns such as Reclaim the Sea (to clean up our coastline from sewage and industrial pollution) and Stop Incineration North East (calling for a halt to mass waste incineration due to its health and environmental impacts).
We would also like to raise enough money to put a leaflet through every door in the area, to encourage them to #VoteGreen, before the election on 4th July. The cost of this is about £3000.
If we somehow end up with more money than we need or if we don't raise enough for the leaflets we will use the money to support other Green Party campaigns in Teesside and the North East.
