We have an exciting, talented and highly respected pool of candidates standing in the South of Scotland list, headed by Sarah Beattie-Smith.
Originally from Biggar in South Lanarkshire, Sarah grew up near the Borders town of Peebles and now lives in Dunbar, East Lothian. She has worked in the voluntary sector for the last nine years, most recently for Citizens Advice Scotland, leading a team of campaigners on issues like combating fuel poverty.
Sarah is passionate about fighting poverty and about helping communities across the South to thrive. Her priority is to secure the affordable, accessible and reliable services needed in the region. In particular, getting better public transport and internet access; supporting more education and employment opportunities, particularly for young people; and tackling fuel poverty and climate change through locally owned sustainable energy.
There is no question: Sarah would be a formidable MSP and we're very excited to have Sarah topping our Regional list in the South of Scotland.
Second on our List is Eurig Scandrett, a well known local campaigner, lecturer in Sociology and coordinator of postgraduate programmes in Social Justice. For 8 years he headed community action at Friends of the Earth Scotland and he has developed a number of pedagogical and research projects in environmental justice campaigns
All of South Scotland's Greens branches (Ayrshire, Borders, Dumfries & Galloway, East Lothian, MidLothian and South Lanarkshire) are proud and committed to be supporting Sarah and Eurig for Holyrood. And of course, all the candidates are supported by members and activists across the whole region. We'll be knocking doors, holding stalls and events, and getting the message out on social media - but we need YOUR help!
If you want to see a Greener Holyrood, please donate what you can - and help the Scottish Green Party deliver a brighter, fairer future for Scotland and the South of Scotland.
