Aim

Limiting screen time, combating social isolation, providing affordable activities for those who want to participate.

Who are we?

The South London Sport & Wellbeing CIC community is an organization whose mission is to connect people through social activity, care for mental health, and the building of lasting interpersonal relationships. For the past two years, our club has operated entirely on a self‑funded basis, thanks to the passion of the founder, coaches, and dedicated volunteers. Today, we proudly bring together and support more than 100 active members of different ages and backgrounds.

Our competitive teams represent us in the Surrey Volleyball League

 (women – 3rd division, men – 2nd and 4th division).

We are building an integrated community where people feel comfortable and supported.

By offering a variety of activities, our goal is to enable individuals of all ages and skill levels to build confidence and engage in sports such as volleyball, badminton, basketball, and other unique events.

Stay offline – be active socially and through sport.

In Morden and the surrounding districts of South London, families face growing social challenges:

  • Screen addiction and loneliness – almost 100% of families in our community report that children and young people spend too much time in front of screens, leading to physical inactivity, reduced social skills, and increased anxiety.
  • Financial barriers to sport – rising hall rental costs and high prices of commercial classes make organized sport inaccessible for low‑income families, single parents, and migrants.
  • Lack of safe spaces – young people need safe, supervised places outside the home where they can build confidence, spend time actively, and form lasting relationships.

Due to the ongoing digital crisis, multimedia addiction, lack of physical activity, and youth isolation, we face a major social challenge — delivering our “Stay Offline” program.

Main goals and activities of our project;

  • Our club enables young people to spend time participating in a range of activities that were previously unavailable to them.

Many were discouraged from sport due to the barriers mentioned above.

  • Thanks to our initiative, families can reconnect with their children and rebuild relationships in a friendly, sports‑focused environment.
  • We create an alternative to the digital world; we bring Parents, Children, and the entire Community together on the court and during shared events and activities.

What we offer;

  • Multi‑sport, screen‑free sessions – weekly training led by licensed coaches (volleyball), recreational basketball, badminton, and table tennis sessions focused on movement, health, and teamwork.
  • Regular integration meetings aimed at building intergenerational bonds.
  • Youth and leadership development – training local young people to obtain coaching qualifications.
  • Full accessibility – subsidized fees so that financial difficulties do not become a barrier to physical activity.

Why we rely on community funding;

The founder of our community initially financed all our activities entirely out of his own pocket, hoping to create a space that everyone could benefit from.

As our club has recently expanded its scope, and with demand constantly growing and over 100 members, increased funding is now essential. It will allow us to continue meeting people’s needs, improve quality, and broaden our reach so more individuals can find their place here.

Why do we crowdfund?

  • Our community's founder originally funded all of our activities entirely out of his own pocket or our membership fees, hoping to create a space that everyone could enjoy.
  • As our Club has recently expanded its scope of activities, more than ever, with ever-increasing demand and over 100 members, increasing funding is essential to continue to meet people's needs, ensuring we can continually improve quality and expand our reach so that more people can find this space.

Our impact;

The two‑year Sports and Wellbeing Community CIC program has shown that participants experienced numerous benefits, including:

  • A healthier lifestyle
  • A strong sense of community belonging
  • A safe space for young people, away from online pressure
  • New connections formed through shared interests
  • An exciting spirit of competition
  • People you can rely on

Our space has helped many individuals who lacked a place for recreation and community, allowing them to meet others who want to build relationships while developing strength, ability, and confidence. We want to continue supporting them as best we can and offer new members the same sense of self‑development during these anxious times. With this space — and your help — we will inspire more people to find and create their own community!

Testimonials

"As someone working full-time, I was given the opportunity to break away from the computer, work, and everyday life. I was also encouraged to participate in many different sporting events and spend time with other people, instead of just sitting at home watching Netflix." – Aga, community member

"It's such a wonderful space where I can freely develop my skills in a sport I've always struggled to find my feet in. The last two years have been extraordinary because of how far we've come together." – member of our youth group
