Support South Durham Gymnastics’ fundraiser to replace our worn foam blocks & make training safer, better & more fun for everyone!
South Durham Gymnastics is a purpose built gymnastics facility located in Spennymoor, Co. Durham. We are a charity with a dedicated team of coaches and volunteers, and our priority is ensuring the Gymnastics Centre is accessible for all community members, from birth to adulthood.

Safety and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. Every leap, flip, and tumble that happens in our gym relies on one vital piece of equipment - our foam pits.
Our project, the ‘Fill the Pit’ Fundraiser aims to replenish and replace the foam in our gymnastics training pits, which have begun to degrade over time through regular use. These pits are essential safety equipment, allowing children and young people to develop physical skills, confidence, and resilience in a safe and supportive environment.
Over time, the foam blocks inside these pits begin to break down, meaning they need to be replaced to stay safe for our gymnasts. To ensure our facilities remain safe, clean, and welcoming, we need to replace over 2,500 foam blocks and protective socks - a project that will cost £12,500.

We hope to reach our fundraising target by May 2026, giving us enough time to order the new foam and complete the pit refills during our summer shutdown week.

This isn’t just about replacing foam, it’s about protecting our gymnasts, from our tiniest Baby & Toddler Gym members to our Teen Gym members. It’s about giving every child the confidence to try, fall, and try again, knowing they’re landing somewhere safe.
Our aim through the Fill the Pit fundraiser is to make our facility safer, more attractive, and more accessible, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get involved in sport. Upgrading our worn foam blocks will enhance every session we offer, from Baby & Toddler Gym, Family Play, Sportsability (autism-friendly) sessions, to School delivery, Recreational Gymnastics, Adult Gym, and our competitive Women’s Gymnastics programme. By filling the pit, we’re investing in a safer, more inclusive space where everyone can learn, play, and thrive.

By donating to the Fill the Pits Fundraiser, you’ll help us:

✨ Support over 800+ children and young people each week
✨ Maintain an inclusive, community-focused space where everyone belongs
✨ Bring our Pink Family together to complete this project
We’re also planning to involve our members, families, and volunteers when it’s time to empty, clean, and refill the pits, a true community effort to keep our gym safe and strong.
