Aim

Back the campaign of the 26 SDA candidates in the May elections, aiming to implement a transparent and functioning democracy in Teignbridge.

The South Devon Alliance are free thinking, independent councillors and passionate residents, who believe that our council/s should be working exclusively in the best interests of the residents and not for the benefit of Political Parties, Developers, Consultants or The Council PLC 1681742295_dont_condem_teignbridge_poster_sml.jpgwww.southdevonalliance.org

We are crowdfunding to raise the campaign funds for the May 4th election, set by the electoral commission of a maximum of circa £800 per candidate.

All the 26 candidates are taking time out of their busy lives to stand up and represent the residents. Help them by supporting the costs of their campaign against the nationally funded rosetted parties. So they can be the start of the change that is needed in politics, a revolution in democracy starting at a local level!

The South Devon Alliance, a political party registered with the Electoral Commission, has the broadest range of candidates with 26 passionate residents putting themselves forward for the May 4 Teignbridge District Council elections.

People of all backgrounds and ages, from 21 upwards, who share the aim of restoring a transparent and functioning democracy to Teignbridge District Council.

Our candidates herald from wide and varied walks of life including a former social worker, economics graduate and musician, NHS nurse, a retail manager, taxi driver, former stockbroker, truck driver and former lifeboat volunteer, laundry worker, child services professional, retired Police Chief Inspector, eco house builder, reiki healers and a former adviser on the Bill Clinton presidential campaign. That’s not including the former Times journalist and comedian, Stagecoach Theatre School operator and Chartered Engineer, live venue owner and social venture champion that we already have on the council.

The group was formed by the passionate and articulate campaigners who were convincingly elected in 2019 as Newton Says No, a group formed in opposition to over-development of Teignbridge.

The South Devon Alliance aims to restore a functioning democracy in Teignbridge, after Lib Dem and Tory administrations have consistently ignored residents and the District Council has recently been found to have 'systemic' failings by the Local Government Ombudsman. The LGO censured Teignbridge Council in January after it judged it had failed to operate within the law, its own consitution and the human rights act when it spent tens of thousands of £'s pursuing an unlawful standards procedure during a global pandemic.1681755900_micehal_king_lgo_quote.jpg

Despite having to endure the 'unlawful' standards procedure, the current South Devon Alliance councillors still succeeded in the three year campaign to #savethealex alongside The Friends of the Alexandra Theatre, halting the Lib Dem (and Tory backed) universally unpopular plans to demolish the interior of Newton Abbot's grade 2 listed theatre.

The South Devon Alliance are now aiming to create a cultural strategy for the district, around the Alexandra Theatre alongside their original raison d'etre to protect the environment and challenge overdevelopment.
