Aim
The project will be working with young people to produce podcasts and to record their music, edit and promote via social media.
Soundbase is a music workshop for young people aged 12-18yrolds in the School Holidays. We have a team of professional musicians that support 25 young people to improve song-writing, guitar playing, drumming, keyboard, band skills and performance as well as confidence, social and emotional skills. The podcast project will build on the strengths of the music workshops to enhance the skills of those attending. The project aims to explore the use of podcasts to both record their music, edit and promote/publicise via social media. Opening up the opportunities to plan and deliver music programmes with a clear end product, thus giving them a clear focus on producing material and ideas in a defined timeframe. Tools and skills that are invaluable and transferable for young people, building confidence through creativity and music and planning/performing to deadlines.
Utilising Songwriting/Performance/Recording we aim to run 10 x 2hr sessions for 20 young people with 2 experienced music tutors to enhance the skills being developed in Soundbase Music Workshops. Ideas and format will be formed and established by the young people. We see this as a therapeutic tool for processing emotions and reducing feelings of isolation or loneliness, helping young people to understand and navigate their mental health. Similarly, podcasts can bring a sense of community to groups - shared experiences regardless of age/ability/diversity.
Funding will be used to buy equipment and to support 2 x tutors to facilitate the workshops.
Any new donations will be matched on a £1 to £1 basis by Creative Scotland.
The equipment will then be incorporated into the Soundbase sessions, where we will utilise the equipment to create a Soundbase podcast at each workshop. The podcasts will be based on the young musicians previous knowledge and experiences with the emphasis on writing songs, playing/performing and the benefits of music.
