Aim

We're raising £9,000 to create an accessible recording studio.

I live with hidden disabilities that reshaped my life overnight. One day I was fully able-bodied; the next, I was navigating shock, trauma, and a completely different reality. Since then, music has become more than a passion — it’s been a form of therapy, a way to process what happened, and a way to communicate experiences that are often invisible to others.

I’m currently undertaking a BA (Hons) in Music Production, building the skills to turn that personal journey into meaningful work. To do that safely and sustainably, I’m constructing a fully sound‑isolated garden music studio. This space isn’t a luxury — it’s essential. It will allow me to record, produce, and collaborate without noise constraints or sensory overload, giving me a stable environment where I can create consistently and without risk.

The studio will support the creation of an advocacy‑driven album focused on hidden disabilities. My goal is to produce music that raises awareness, fosters empathy, and helps people understand the realities that aren’t always visible. With the right environment, I can turn lived experience into something that supports others who feel unseen.

How the Studio Will Be Built

This will be a full DIY build — something I’m approaching with care, planning, and a genuine passion for learning. As part of my BA (Hons) in Music Production, I’m documenting the entire process across my social media channels. Supporters will be able to follow each stage: from framing and acoustic treatment to wiring, testing, and the first recording session.

A Flexible, Health‑Conscious Timeline

Because of my health constraints and other commitments, I can’t give a fixed completion date. What I can promise is steady progress, transparent updates, and a commitment to building this studio safely and sustainably. My disabilities mean I have to pace the work, but they also make this project deeply meaningful — it’s a space designed to support my wellbeing while enabling me to create music that advocates for others living with hidden conditions.

Why This Matters to Backers

By supporting this project, you’re not just funding materials — you’re joining the journey. You’ll see the studio take shape piece by piece, and you’ll be part of the story behind the album. The build itself becomes a form of advocacy: showing what it looks like to create art while navigating disability, resilience, and adaptation.

Funding Breakdown

Building a fully sound‑isolated studio requires specialist acoustic materials, structural components, and equipment designed to support safe, comfortable music production. Because this is a DIY project, every contribution goes directly into the physical build and the tools I need to work sustainably. Here’s how the funding will be used:

  • Structural Materials — Timber, fixings, and weatherproofing to create a stable, insulated outer shell that can support the acoustic layers and withstand year‑round conditions.
  • Acoustic Isolation Components — Resilient mounting clips, metal channels, and decoupled framing systems that prevent vibrations and external noise from entering the studio.
  • Sound Absorption and Damping — High‑density mineral wool insulation and specialised damping compound to control sound energy and achieve professional‑grade isolation suitable for recording and mixing.
  • Mass Layers and Interior Surfaces — Multiple layers of plasterboard to add the mass required for effective soundproofing, forming the core of the studio’s acoustic structure.
  • Electrical and Ventilation Work — Safe power distribution, lighting, and a ventilation system that ensures the studio remains comfortable and usable for long sessions without causing sensory overload.
  • Finishing Essentials — Acoustic sealant, weatherproof membranes, vapour barriers, and other materials that ensure durability, airtightness, and long‑term performance.
  • Ergonomic Studio Equipment — A height‑adjustable desk, supportive seating, monitor stands, and other ergonomic tools that allow me to work safely and comfortably with my disabilities, reducing strain and enabling longer creative sessions.

Every component listed above is essential for creating a space where I can work safely, consistently, and without sensory overload. By supporting this project, you’re helping me build a studio that directly enables the creation of an album centred on hidden disabilities — a project rooted in lived experience, resilience, and advocacy.

Material Donations

I am open to donations of suitable building or acoustic materials, as long as they can be delivered. This support helps reduce costs, supports sustainability, and allows the project to move forward safely and at a pace that respects my health.

Community Commitment

If this project raises more than the amount needed to complete the studio build, any surplus funds will be donated to a community initiative in Doncaster that supports Autism UK and MIND. These organisations provide vital help for people living with hidden disabilities and mental‑health challenges, and contributing to them reflects the heart of this project: turning personal experience into something that supports others.

Sustainable Approach

This build is being carried out with a focus on sustainability — using materials efficiently, recycling offcuts where possible, and choosing durable components that will last for many years. As a DIY project paced around my health, the work is naturally careful, intentional, and low‑waste, reflecting my commitment to building a studio that is both environmentally responsible and supportive of long‑term wellbeing.

Project Goals — What Backers Make Possible

This studio is more than a workspace; it’s the foundation for an entire creative and advocacy-driven journey. With your support, I’ll be able to produce an album that brings hidden disabilities into the light — sharing real experiences, honest emotions, and the realities of living with conditions that aren’t always visible.

The completed studio will give me a safe, accessible environment where I can record vocals, produce music, collaborate with others, and work at a pace that respects my health. It will allow me to finish the first track of the album and move into full production, creating a body of work that aims to educate, raise awareness, and foster empathy.

Your contribution doesn’t just help build a room — it helps build a platform for voices and stories that often go unheard. It supports creativity, resilience, and advocacy, and it enables me to turn lived experience into something that can help others feel seen, understood, and represented.

Backer Connection & Appreciation

Instead of traditional rewards, I want to offer something more personal and meaningful — a sense of connection to the journey, the advocacy, and the music this studio will make possible. Because this project is paced around my health, the focus is on sharing progress in a way that is sustainable, honest, and true to the purpose behind the build.

• Insightful Build Updates I’ll share the studio’s progress through my social channels, documenting the DIY process, the challenges, and the small victories. These updates will be paced gently and authentically, reflecting the reality of building while living with hidden disabilities.

• Early Listening Access Backers will be invited to hear the first completed track of the album before it’s released publicly — a chance to experience the project’s emotional core as it takes shape.

• Acknowledgement in the Album Credits Anyone who wishes to be recognised will be included in the digital album credits as part of the community that helped make this studio possible.

Reflections on Advocacy & Lived Experience I’ll continue sharing honest reflections about hidden disabilities, trauma, and the creative process through my social media channels. These posts are part of my ongoing advocacy work, offering insight into the lived experiences that shape the music and the purpose behind this project.

Timeline & Progress Updates

Because this is a DIY build paced around my health, the timeline for the studio will remain flexible. Rather than fixed deadlines, the project will move forward in carefully planned stages — from preparing the space and constructing the shell, to installing acoustic isolation, electrical work, and finally setting up the ergonomic production environment.

Progress will be shared openly through my social media channels, where I’ll document each stage of the build as it happens. These updates will reflect the real pace of working with hidden disabilities: steady, intentional, and focused on creating a safe and sustainable studio that supports long‑term music production.

Backers will be able to follow the journey from start to finish, seeing the studio evolve piece by piece and watching the foundations of the advocacy‑driven album come to life. The timeline may be flexible, but the commitment to completing the studio — and to sharing that process honestly — is absolute.

Closing Statement

This project is rooted in lived experience — in the shock of becoming disabled overnight, in the ongoing reality of hidden disabilities, and in the healing power of music. Building this studio is a way for me to create safely, sustainably, and with purpose. It’s a space that will allow me to turn personal challenges into something that can support others, raise awareness, and foster empathy through an advocacy‑driven album.

If you choose to support this project, you’re helping me build more than a room. You’re helping create a platform for voices and stories that often go unheard. You’re supporting accessible creativity, mental‑health advocacy, and a journey that aims to bring visibility to experiences that are usually invisible.

Every contribution — whether funding, materials, or simply sharing the campaign — makes a real difference. It brings the studio closer to completion and helps lay the foundation for music that speaks honestly about hidden disabilities and the resilience behind them.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this project, and for considering being part of the journey. Your support means more than you know.
