Aim

I want to create a safe, restorative space where women living with chronic illnesses can find comfort, healing, and connection

Why this matters to me

This project is in loving memory of my beloved mother, who passed away in 2024 after battling autoimmune disorders, cardiac sarcoidosis, and skin cancer.

She was first diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in her forties, and although she bravely carried on working full-time for the NHS until the year she died, at 54 she finally spent the last few months of her life in hospital. As her heart failure progressed, even gentle yoga became too difficult. But she could always lie down and listen, and still gently sing along to her favourite musicals. Both music (& her many novels) gave her peace when movement was no longer possible.

My mother came from a lineage of musicians: pianists, singers, and celebrated opera performers, including the first pianist to teach at the Royal College of Music and singers who performed for Queen Victoria at her Golden Jubilee. Music runs in my family, and I have seen first-hand how profoundly it can comfort the mind during times of distress and pain.

Now, I want to honour her legacy by offering that same comfort to other women navigating the challenges of chronic illness - totally free of charge.

How it will work

I’ve secured a beautiful B-Corp social enterprise and wellness space in East Dulwich - completely free of charge - to host these sessions. This means every penny raised will go directly into creating a deeply restorative environment for women living with chronic illness.

Working alongside local GPs, social prescribing link workers, churches, charities, schools, and women’s groups, I will ensure this offering reaches those who need it most. Chronic illness can be deeply isolating: I want these workshops to be not only a place of soothing sound but also a peer-led support network where women feel seen, held, and less alone.

The Vision

Every woman living with a chronic illness deserves a safe, nurturing space to relax, restore, and feel held outside of a clinical setting. Too often, healing spaces are reserved for those who can afford them. My vision is that no matter your financial circumstances, you should be able to access the healing power of sound, community, and rest.

Sound healing in London is often priced out of reach for many: a single session can cost well over £20, rising to £200 or more for private sessions. For women managing long-term conditions - many of whom already face reduced incomes and high healthcare costs - this makes healing spaces inaccessible. My project is about changing that.

The Evidence

Numerous peer-reviewed studies back up what many people intuitively feel after a session: sound can soothe the nervous system, reduce stress, and support healing. For instance, McCrary et al. (2022) conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 26 studies (779 participants), finding that music interventions (listening, therapy, singing) were associated with clinically meaningful improvements in mental health–related quality of life.

The Need

Chronic illness disproportionately affects women. In the UK, around 1 in 10 people live with an autoimmune condition, and women are affected at far higher rates than men. Millions more live with other long-term conditions that can leave them exhausted, isolated, and searching for gentle, supportive forms of care. This project is about making sure these women are not left behind.

What I Need Your Help With

To create a truly nourishing experience, I need to purchase specialist sound healing equipment and supportive props so women can relax in comfort. This includes:

  • A Gong
  • Tibetan singing bowls
  • Crystal bowls
  • Koshi chimes
  • Essential oil diffuser
  • Pillows and cushions
  • Eye masks

Your support will help me create the conditions for rest and healing by covering the cost of the equipment.

How You Can Help

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Together, we can create something profoundly healing for women in London who often feel overlooked and exhausted by the weight of illness.

✨ £20 could buy a soft blanket for someone to feel safe and warm
✨ £50 could buy a bolster so a woman can rest without strain
✨ £100 could contribute towards a singing bowl that carries sound deep into the body
✨ £500 could help fund the gong: the heart of the sound bath experience

With your support, we can bring peace, music, and comfort to those who need it most.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me make this dream a reality - in memory of my mother, Anna, and in honour of all the brave women navigating chronic illness.
