Aim

Our area has seen a 100% rise in the suicide rates in the last couple of years, including a number of children. We're going to change that!

After a 12-year-old child attempted suicide at a motorway bridge up the road (he survived, but with serious injuries) hot on the heels of two other children at the same spot, we decided that we needed to do something about the horrendous situation in our area of East Lancashire.

Our organisation was originally set up after a couple of friends took their own lives, and we're making great strides in getting people in our community out and working together. We are seeing terrible failings in the mental health services however, and feel that we need to get more actively involved in doing something about it - not #talking-about-doing-something, but actually DOING STUFF!

We used the initial crowd-funder to enable us to host a suicide awareness and reduction conference on 29th February, where we invited people and organisations with an interest in providing real, tangible and practical advice to people experiencing difficulties, or with friends and family experiencing difficulties.

From that conference we have identified a need for much more stuff. We are printing a book of help and advice provided by all of our speakers at the event, and are organising monthly mental health seminars where those speakers will have more time to work on things with us. We are also trying to find a way to employ two full-time counsellors so that anyone experiencing difficulties will have access to a counsellor instantly, rather than fighting for a GP appointment and then going on a months' long waiting list.

If this stuff works for our area, then we will be aiming to roll it out elsewhere - with your help! Please get in touch if you would like to be involved in your area.

Any money we raise will help us to achieve all of this stuff locally, but also put together a package that can be easily set-up elsewhere.
