Aim: We are sending out an SOS! Our studio has faced the most challenging period since we opened 11 years ago, but we won’t give up that easily!

2023 has been a humbling time here at Sonsoles Print Studio. With the threat of closure, we've had to take a long hard look at our practice and the fact is, if we don't invest now, we will not survive for much longer!
We need to raise £12,000 to turn things around.
We believe this crowdfunder will kickstart a new chapter that can provide sponsorship for new members, residencies, a platform for members to showcase their work AND the opportunity to be part of a thriving community.
We are currently the only open access screen-printing studio in Peckham and have seen other studios come and go. Community is at the heart of what we do and this is the only reason we've come this far. We can't do this without you.

ABOUT US
Sonsoles Print Studio was established in 2012 a year after I graduated from the Royal College of Art. I was trying to find a studio to continue my practice but the monthly fee that other studios required made it unrealistic. So, I decided to do something radical and open my own studio to empower other printmakers like me to work when they can afford it and a project is ready.

- Open access studio, providing an A0 and two A1 screen printing tables, a self-contained exposure unit and wash out, ink mixing and large table cutting areas

OUR COMMUNITY
When I launched in 2012, fellow graduates quickly became members and we carried on the same camaraderie we experienced in the university print room. From there, a diverse community has evolved that includes full time practicing artists and others working in the creative industry to those working in A&E departments, TFL drivers, accountants, teachers and more. There's never a dull moment and this is not an art-school clique! Perhaps this ‘come as you are’ ethos just comes naturally to me, I’m the 7th of 11 siblings and born in the mediterranean!
The most rewarding aspect of running the studio is the relationships that are formed; seeing members support each other to get out there and sell their work, collaborating, helping each other with job opportunities and co-mentoring.

THE SITUATION
Difficulties caused by Covid-19, the cost of living crisis, gentrification and changes in the digital media landscape have snowballed into an unmanageable situation. Surviving isn't an option anymore, we need to make changes that will make us excel like never before and take us into new territory.

- Digital printer for positives & software
- Website with direct booking and membership system and shop
- Upgrade exposure unit with a new latex rubber cover
- Desktop computer and software
- Part-time employee to oversee administrative and marketing projects

- Additional large format print table
- Studio redesign and build: Front desk and mixing area

Digital printer - A digital printer to make positives in house will mean a slicker service for members, helping them to get the most out of the sessions they've paid for.
Website - A new website will help us elevate our presence, get organised- we currently operate using 3 booking systems. We want to have an online gallery and shop to show off our members wonderful work.
Admin role - Since May, we've employed our first Projects Co-ordinator, the only admin/marketing role we've ever had! We need to sustain the role and help it evolve if we want to see our projects come through. Having this in place means we can start to facilitate:
- A Print Collective to show at Print Fairs such as The Other Print Fair & Woolwich Contemporary
- A residency programe to include mentoring
- Members events, talks, workshops and creative circle
- Funding applications so that we can sponsor local graduates and residents to print
The last point is really important to us, one of our core values is to do what is in our power to make Screen-Printing available to all!

A MASTERCLASS IN EDITIONING £ 50 - SOLD OUT!
If you are at an intermediate level with your screen-printing and want to develop your technical abilities further, this is the course for you.
The workshop will enable participants to improve their consistency by building an understanding of the physics of the printing process and introducing methodologies for problem solving on press.
The masterclass will cover: registration, press dynamics, mesh counts, inks, papers and our overall approach, with the intention to clarify our understanding to make the right decision when on press problems arise. The techniques and ideas introduced in this course are used by professional screen-printers in the commercial industry to help them yield better results and could help you achieve your creative vision.
