I have been volunteering for SONshine club since 2006 and we primarily sponsor children to ensure they get a primary school education, supplying annually school uniform and shoes etc. Each child also gets enrolled in a goat rearing program to help their families become self sufficient and they are encouraged to use the milk to improve their health. All our sponsor children receive a Medical insurance allowing any family member to access medical care when required. The children receive additional help in the form of water filters, mattresses, mosquito nets, solar lamps.
We have a training farm in Gatagani, which breeds goats to supplement the sponsored programme and farmers are free to visit for information and training on livestock and crop management . The farm has faced many challenges from drought, floods, and locust infestations and on top of that their petrol water pump keeps breaking down and the cost of running it has risen since lockdown We want to help the farm increase their crops as the farm wants to become self sufficient and help feed more elderly and needy in the community
