'Somebody Loved Me' will be a film about dogs living in kennels 24hrs a day: uncomfortable, bored, lonely and unloved.
Adapted from a true story, 'Somebody Loved Me' will hopefully expose the shortfall in enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act. Having witnessed dogs kept in kennels 24hrs a day, and suffered the immense stress and upset of feeling helpless in the face of unwilling or unable agencies, I felt compelled to do my best to campaign for improvement. Right now, it is possible to keep a dog in a kennel all the time as long as it has food and water and doesn't look as though it's injured or dying. The RSPCA cannot prove it's kept in the kennel 24hrs a day and will not take on cases it cannot easily prove due to only being a charity. The police will not intervene without the RSPCA first asking for intervention. Councils do not have specified employees able to intervene and the Dog Warden generally only deals with strays. This inability to act to save dogs from obvious chronic suffering results in prolonged suffering not just of the dogs but also the citizens who witness this suffering, day in and day out. This suffering can lead to an inability to work, to sleep and to focus on ordinary life. At worst, it can lead to traumatic neighbourly relations and even criminal convictions for the witness, who may throw themselves under the bus in their attempts to save the dogs. Please donate what you can and I promise to do my bit by creating the best film the funds can fund. I have already made a good start with my own funds despite not having an income right now.
