With the extra money we would look to improve the net facilities at Solihull Municip...
We aim to improve Widney School's playing field and Solihull Municipal CC's Facilities.
About Us
Solihull Municipal CC was established in 1948 in Solihull, on Brick Kiln Lane. Situated next to Widney Junior School, the club has three Saturday sides, two Sunday sides, three Junior Sides as well as running All Stars Cricket, and Dynamos cricket for boys and girls.
In 2014 Widney Junior School & Solihull Municipal Cricket Club joined forces to install an astro turf pitch on the Widney Junior School playing field, which opened up opportunities for Solihull Municipal CC to bring their 3rd team home as well as forming a partnership with Knowle Village CC to use the ground for their 3rd team on alternate Saturdays. This has also allowed the club to run more junior fixtures, and ensure that there are always opportunities for more junior players to play the game we all love. As well as providing these opportunities, the club has also been used by Wavis Cricket Club who have played social cricket every Tuesday night over the last 15 years!
Why are we fundraising?
The school playing field at Widney School is incredibly important to both the staff, children, parents and future generations at Widney Junior School. As well as Solihull Municipal Cricket Club for the development of the junior section, facilities and for the future of the club. However, over the last few years and the ever changing temperatures and high rainfall, the drainage of the field has got considerably worse. This has led to 10 out of 18 home games cancelled due to the unfit nature of the field. The constant flooding of the field also means that Widney Junior School are not able to use the field when wet, or even use half of the field for their PE lessons and extra curricular activities.
Who would this benefit?
It's not just cricket that is played on the field, with football, rounders, athletics, science lessons have been seen on the field. The school try to hold their sports day on the field each year, and sometimes are only able to use part of their field, limiting the opportunities for the young people to showcase their skills! Being able to use their field more across the summer, means they will be able to engage with the their parents and the local community to show off their pupils talents. With the increase in obesity levels among children and adults, the use of this field is extremely important to all that use the field at the moment and in the future.
How will the money be used?
With this money the club would install some drainage into the field to allow the water to drain away more efficiently and increase the amount of cricket and sport that is played on the field. The drainage will be inserted throughout the field, which will give the water a place to drain to, which will be at the end of the field nearest to the main cricket pitch. This will cost around £10,000 for the contractor to administer these materials and ensure that they have got to the root of the problem. As you will all be aware, schools are under immense pressure financially, so the school aren't in a position to do this themselves, and we would like to help them and help our cricketers!

How our project will be united by Birmingham 2022
We will look to use this funding to continue to develop our offer for cricket to be played at Solihull Municipal CC. We would love to expand our playing offer to Women & Girls, with the club starting up their first girls only offer this summer with a Girls Only Dynamos session on Friday evenings. We aim to continue to grow and develop this into a girls section and into a Women's cricket team in the future. The development of this playing field will not only allow the club to develop their girls cricket offer, but the school can use the field more during the summer months to offer cricket to their pupils, creating a pathway for those girls and women inspired by the commonwealth games to play the game.
With improved facilities, we can also look to increase our volunteer and coaching team to only assist the development of the club and the opportunities to play cricket. With the hope that in the years to come Solihull Municipal becomes the hub of cricket for all!
