Aim
I would like to have 200 of these pins printed as the design has had a lot of interest. The cost is £340 minimum.
- I am a bedridden artist with 16 disabilities, including a connective tissue disease and severe uncontrolled epilepsy. I started this business in 2019, in the middle of having encephalitis which was discovered several weeks later. I now have a brain injury. Between my disabilities I am bedridden to the point of relying on bedpans.
I also have a disabled partner and 3 disabled children. When my health, especially the subluxations and dislocations, became worse, my husband had to quit his job and has been trying to set up his own business too. He has been ill for 2 months of that time, including several weeks in hospital. So it's been a difficult financial time.
However, we both remain committed to not letting health get in our way and wanting to continue our businesses, including to inspire our children to reach their potential, regardless of disability. He is working 40 hours per week and I am working 20.
The Art Orchard creates projects associated with my identify. I am non-binary & bi so queer projects are important, as are disability, feminist and socialist items.
I designed the Solidaritee pin to show the interconnectedness of oppression and how we can all join together at its centre to fight the oppressions we face. I would love to tiurn it into a soft enamel pin, which I have to outsource to manufacturers at a price beyond my current capacity.
