We have been giving 80% funding for a big soil project on the farm. We have to find the money for the rest! Build soil, build community.
As we work with the living planet, we see that soil – black, crumbly, humusy, complex and full of energy – has soul.
Why is this of interest to you?
Well soil is awesome.
Some people say we know more about space than we know about soil.
We’re regenerating soil minerals and building diverse habitats whilst producing very high quality food.
We want to create a lot of soil on this farm.
Firstly we will be using greenwaste as our base and bulking item. We want to enhance this with seaweed, our own plant resedue, horse manure, coffee grounds, charcoal and wood chip.
We are ambitiously aiming for 20 tons a year.
Building the compost bays is actually a big project.
We need to level the ground so it is accessible for trucks and we need to buy a lot of timber.
We have designed some awesome swag for you to buy, to help us raise the fund we need to build 5 large compost bays.

Building the soil is beneficial to the you and the community not just through climate resiliance, but also through improved food quality. With the amount of compost we are generating we will be having a lot of jobs for our volunteers to work on so its also helping our direct community action.

We also want to improve the space for our volunteers.
For instance more picnic benches and food making equipment for our volunteer days. We will be working with a Food Bank to bring their customers to the farm in 2023 and our facilities being better would improve their experience. We also need more tools so everyone can get their hands dirty.
If we meet stretch targets - depending on the amount - then we have many other ideas that we would like to fund. We need covers for the compost. We need better water capture systems. We would like to buy a second hand mini tractor with a front loader for turning the piles and moving compost about (but this will probably be beyond a crowdfunder). We would like to do more training. We need more Riverford style folding waterproof boxes. The list goes on.
We have a few designs for you to pick from.

Soul Farm is 3.5-acre no-dig market farm growing seasonal vegetables in the Falmouth area of Cornwall
Soul Farm (Community Interest Company) is a food justice-oriented, ecologically supportive organisation. We cultivate vegetables agroecologically and using no dig methods. At every step, we’re thinking about how we organise around making good food accessible to all and around restoring local people’s relationships with the land.

We feed 570 households through our veg box scheme, donate 18 free solidarity veg boxes to families in need per week, have a growing volunteer network of 59 individuals and sell produce to local restaurants and at market. Our customer base extends from the local village of Flushing to Penryn, Falmouth and Truro. Last year the people in the area eat over 14 tons of salad that we grew.
