We’re trying to make an affordable, indoor skate space for autumn and winter. Great for kids on rainy days, and wider skate community TBC
We want to first put a small mini ramp in for kids, and then work to prove if this can work and we're respectful of the space we can open slots to adults and teens with some more apparatus. I'll lay out the costs below so you can see what I'm asking for and why! I'm also open to your feedback. Can you donate some pieces of kit (Quarter pipe hanging about in the garden, or some raw materials? Old boards for kids that have low funds? Your time to help assemble, or to be onsite, give lessons etc.). Hit me up!
I’m Gareth, my daughter is four and enjoys skateboarding. Winter limits our options for sports and outdoor activities and gives parents a headache. Plus, the skate community has nowhere to go. Skating is confidence building, accessible, physical and fun. As luck would have it, we have an amazing (large) community venue on our doorstep looking for ways to engage and improve the community. If we can create a decent proposal, we’re in with a real chance of making this happen. We’ll start small with a mini ramp, but there is scope to add a few bits and pieces, so long as we are respectful of the space and can move around the other functions, such as theatre shows, dance classes, filmography etc.
The factory space on Christchurch Road (a community interest company) is generously willing to work with us, and open to proposals. They are community minded; focusing on inclusivity, and accessibility - including affordability. However, let's try and make this economically sustainable for everyone.
I think we can make this work even if we don't hit the full target, but we do need a good percentage of this start up cost. My thinking is sessions would be 45 mins for £5, with £0 sessions for those lacking funds, £10 options for those that wish to donate to those sessions. If you donate, we can work together so you can have some free sessions. I'm working on other 'prizes' like boards, lessons etc. but I'm a working dad with limited time, so open to your own fundraising, and being collaborative with rewards.
