Sneinton Community Festival - 40th Anniversary

Aim: To raise money for Sneinton Community Festival 2024 - which is the 40th anniversary of Sneinton Festival.

Sneinton Community Festival and Parade has, sadly, not been successful in attaining Awards for All Community funding this year. In addition we won't be able to be funded by the local councillors as has always been the case for the festival - due to under funding of Nottingham City Council.

To make the festival happen this year we need to pay for:

* Festival programme printing
* Festival insurance
* Hire of an ambulance
* A small children's music stage
* Small main music stage and generator
* Small fee to cover the insurance for the vikings

* We would like to be able to pay some of the lead artists, musicians, dancers, costume makers, litter pickers, stewards something for their time and hard work - for going into schools and working with community groups.

Sneinton Festival as we know it today started in 1984 - though we think it happened every summer for many many years before that. The festival has for the past 40 years been a celebration of the diversity of cultures and personalities of the community that lives here. The festival brings people together, across generations and cultures, to enjoy arts, music, sports and activities for free. To enjoy what each other do and feel good together! We need this more than ever before as many people are being pushed into poverty.

Sneinton has been a welcoming home, since WW2 at least, to many diasporas, refugees, migrants and asylum seekers.

Over the last few years the festival has suffered due to innumerable cuts, inflation, cost of living crisis, pandemic and under funding of local government. There was no festival since 2019 until last year (2023) when Green's Windmill generously and successfully hosted the event.

Green's Mill are unable to host the event again as they are busy mending the windmill.

This year the theme is 'There's No Place Like Home' to celebrate this community and to acknowldege that Sneinton has become home to so many people from around the world - and to celebrate the homes that many of us have left behind.

Please support us to make this wonderful, vibrant community festival happen in it's 40th year !! Anything that you can give will help us to keep this piece of living heritage alive.
