SNaP Youth is putting down roots and growing!!!
At the end of December 2024, SNaP Youth (South Normanton and Pinxton Youth) is being uprooted. We have worked from what is now the Thrive building on the High Street in South Normanton for many years, delivering youth clubs and school holiday activities. We have now been asked to leave - but we think this could be the push that we needed to inspire us to grow, and reach for the sky!
Staying on High Street...?
With no suitable alternative building in South Normanton from which we could deliver our vital youth work we’d instead love to acquire a space of our own that we can design to our own unique specifications. We have our eye on the business centre, where we currently have our office, at 34 High Street. With help from the community, we could make this into an amazing place where young people can come to feel safe, to engage with positive activities and to flourish as individuals.
Expanding Our Services
With our own bespoke venue, we can offer much more than our current youth clubs and holiday activities. We can expand our services to include one-to-one support, advisory services, alternative educational provision, parent support groups, homework clubs, workshops and more. The new youth club would include a tailor made kitchen so that we can continue to teach essential life skills such as planning and preparing healthy meals. We could also buy and store extra resources so that we can deliver a more diverse range of activities. And it won’t just be the young people who benefit - we could build a community resource point where anyone can get advice or support. We could organise skill sharing events where young people would have the opportunity to engage with other members of the community. The possibilities are endless.
Ambitions Fulfilled
If we get the chance to fulfil our ambition, everyone will benefit. When young people expand their field of experience and become more confident, their behaviour changes. They develop an awareness of and appreciation for their surroundings. Their outlook and aspirations change. Families and communities change.
We will leave the Thrive building at the end of December and a new SNaP Youth will emerge. Can you back us? Let’s make SNaP Youth truly a community resource by getting together to raise funds to make our dream a reality. If every household in South Normanton gave £20, we could easily meet our target.
