Current Aim
We arranged a protest in November last year, in which we carried coffins over Westminster Bridge to Parliament, it got a lot of attention and made us impossible to ignore, we are a much bigger group now and another protest with far more people would have a much, much bigger impact.
But protests cost! one coach alone for the last protest cost £1300! the coffins cost £2000!! and we need to go bigger this time.
About Smart Motorways Kill
We really are stronger together. We are impossible to ignore now and already making a difference, let stop the next family’s lives being smashed to pieces.
We're fighting in the names of: Jason Mercer, Alexandru Murgeanu, Nargis Begum, Derek Jacobs, Dev Naran, Jamil Ahmed, Zahir Ahmed, Martin Davies, Sevim Üstün, Ayşe Üstün, Zoltan Torok and unfortunately many more, so far unnamed.
This campaign is bringing a judicial review to force a legal stop to smart motorways in the names of everyone killed and hurt on these death traps. We are also bringing class actions and disability discrimination complaints and pushing very hard for South Yorkshire Police to investigate Highways England for corporate manslaughter.
We have also submitted a lot of freedom of information requests to both SYP and H.E to be better informed.
Two questions we get asked a lot are:
(1) Is there a petition to sign? Answer: No, there is no petition set up by this campaign. With all the legal action mentioned above a petition is an inefficient use of our resources. Changing laws is far more effective. Only gov.uk petitions promise any tangible action (others petition are literally just a list of names, which are ignored) The action promised is only to get the matter discussed in parliament. This matter has been discussed in parliament many, many times, it gets nowhere. Parliament then moves on to the next topic it is obliged to discuss.
(2) What can I do to help? Answer: We hate to say it but the most helpful thing you could do is donate to the crowd fund or buy car stickers (see our facebook page)
We are very aware that not everyone is in a position to do this. Other support includes sharing our posts on Facebook and Twitter to help get the message spread futher
