This unique and magical radio station has been hovering over Dartmoor for five years - now let's take flight.
How can we ensure that lots of voices are heard, in the conversations about what our National Parks can be, and who they serve? Dartmoor is celebrating 75 years of being a National Park this year and we invite all of its residents and visitors to be part of the story.
Skylark, the radical radio station that transmits a continuous sound installation across Dartmoor has now been awarded its 2nd, five-year licence. It's time to really make this thrive together! Unlike any other channel, all of our sounds are recorded here on the Moor, and all kinds of humans and other beings are welcomed to share their voices and experiences. Help us to pay our licence fees, run our server and include as many Dartmoor sounds and voices as possible in our unique algorithmic composition.
This is a novel answer to the problems of divisive and opaque media... we are owned and operated by local people, we are not-for-profit, and our way of bringing voices together in many combinations is counter to the tendencies of social media to divide people into opposing groups. It's a place where everyone is listened to, from 100 yr old farmers to week-old blackbirds, from ancient rock formations to school children.
Dartmoor is at once beautiful and imposing, isolating and enchanting, full of stories both factual and fictional. We want to make sure we are reaching the people who are traditionally less represented in the media and whose voices should be heard, and that they can help to shape the story of Dartmoor going forward.
