Aim

Preserve Skye’s Musical Soul for Generations. Having filmed for 3 years we need your help to finish postproduction. Be Part of the Story!

We are Over The Bridge Films, a Skye-based production company dedicated to telling authentic stories of Scottish culture and community

Music is a connection to the past and the future.   Our feature-length documentary focuses on the importance and relevance of music to communities on the Isle of Skye, told by the celebrated musicians from the island. The film explores both the evolution of folk music and the cultural changes to the communities over the last 50 years, with interviews from artists such as Donnie Munro of Runrig, Peter Morrison of The Peatbog Faeries and Ruairidh Graham of Niteworks. The documentary also features live performances at Celtic Connections, Skye Live, and a session hosted by Noah Scott who was a finalist in the BBC Young Trad Musician of the year competition 2025.

“A stunning, immersive love letter to Skye and its folk — weaving music, memory and landscape into something both intimate and epic. It’s hard not to be moved by it; a vivid reminder of how music and community can keep a place’s heart beating even as the world around it changes.”

By contrasting the romanticsed view of Skye with the reality, each featured artist gives their insights into the complex issues facing this island community. Valtos shine a light on the housing crisis. Malin Lewis shares their experience around identity & inclusivity. Niteworks talk candidly about the lack of job opportunities and the Peatbog Fairies reflect on the lost generation of Gaelic speakers. This story is an accessible but unwavering look at life on the Isle of Skye, past, present and future.
