Aim
A psychological horror about the blossoming romance between a lonely biology teacher... and the anatomical skeleton in his classroom.
Our goal is to create an ambitious 10 minute short horror film about isolation, masculinity, and mental health.
The Story:
Set in Cornwall during the 70's, this story follows Frank, a lonely biology teacher who develops an intimate relationship with an anatomical skeleton. After taking it home one day, Frank slowly starts to lose his mind. When the headteacher makes a surprise visit, wondering why the school skeleton has gone missing, Frank and his skeletal soulmate will have to decide how far they will go for love...
Why it needs telling:
We want to tell an intimate story set within the context of the 70's about a man using an inanimate object to escape the anxieties and misfortunes in his everyday life, leading to a downward spiral that unravels all the expectations around masculinity, sexuality and the 'Stiff upper lip' attitude that was demanded of English men at the time.
Why we need your help:
Your contribution will go towards ensuring our film looks and feels like the 1970's, as well as securing talented professional actors who will bring our story to life. We also need funds to get our amazing cast and crew to and from location while keeping them safe and well fed.
If we reach our target, we plan to take our ambition even further and set a stretch goal in order to afford to shoot the entire project using 16mm film.

Oscar Nathan - Writer/Director
Oscar has directed twice before, one of those films being a horror. He has only recently found his passion for screenwriting. Oscar’s major inspiration for ‘Skin & Bones’ was his fear of loneliness, which everyone can relate to. Another inspiration was the story of Dr Carl Tanzler; a German doctor in Florida who fell in love with a patient who died, taking her remains back to his house and doing unspeakable things to her…
Oscar would like to see ‘Skin & Bones’ hit the film festival circuit with a bang and further his ambitions of being a director.
James Measures - Producer
James has been producing short films for over 2 years, working on projects ranging from drama to documentary. It's safe to say he is very excited to be delving into the world of horror, a genre that is very close to his heart. James believes that "Skin and Bones" has something important to say, and he looks forward to bringing this film to life. He hopes to establish himself as a producer of both shorts and feature projects in Cornwall and beyond.
Cinematographer - Joseph Husband AKA José
With Public Enemy (2021) being his last film as DP, he couldn’t say yes quick enough when Producer James and Writer/Director Oscar approached him to continue the role with the psychological horror, "Skin and Bones". He’s always wanted to shoot a horror film, especially with an old school 16mm film camera, but it’s the story and setting and working with familiar faces that really sold it. It’s a film that has to be made.
Production Designer - Robert Perkins
Rob came to the realisation recently that much of his love of film has been due to a fascination with art departments, with their sets, character designs and costumes. He is now combining this interest with his passion for horror, a genre he has loved ever since he got over his fear of the dark (and even before then). It’s a genre that relies heavily on its production design in order to be effective, and although a 1970s setting brings many challenges, Rob is determined to achieve this in both an accurate and interesting way.
Sound Designer - Pete Quayle
Coming from the Isle of Man, Pete has focused his time into becoming a skilled sound engineer, working on projects such as Public Enemy (2021), Shut In (2020) and Shallow Orange (2019). Cornwall has become a second home to Pete, sharing many of the same features of a coastal lifestyle as his native island that inspired his creative direction into filmmaking. This project caught his attention with its unique story, creative characters and its hard working crew. He hopes the film will be the start of a fruitful career in sound engineering across the country.
Editor - Josh Brumpton
Josh is a 3rd year Film student and has developed a passion for video editing and colour grading. Josh was drawn to this project because of the strange relationship between Frank and his skeleton, and how the film explores loneliness and depravity. A big influence on him has been "A ghost story", directed by David Lowery. It tackles a horror trope to explore the characters' emotions, and its 4:3 aesthetic creates an intimate feeling.
