We're fundraising to build a Skatepark in Turlin Moor! Help us support our youth with a free, accessible facility built for all skill levels
Since 2016, Poole Communities Trust (PCT) has been working alongside the residents of Turlin Moor – and one message has come through loud and clear: the community wants better spaces for their children and young people to thrive. From toddlers to teenagers, locals have consistently called for two transformational projects: a vibrant, modern playpark for younger children (Phase 1) and a long-awaited skatepark for older children and adults (Phase 2).
The demand for a skatepark is stronger than ever. A passionate group of eight local mums came together under the banner of Play Moor Skate Moor, a grassroots group formed with PCT to fundraise and campaign for both projects. Their mission is simple: to create safe, inclusive, and inspiring spaces that reflect the energy and aspirations of Turlin Moor.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of the community and local partners, Phase 1 is now complete – a brand new playpark is already making a difference to families with young children. But our work isn’t done. We now need your help to make Phase 2 a reality.
To build on this momentum and keep the vision moving forward, we are now launching a dedicated crowdfunding campaign. While we continue applying to major funders, we know how powerful grassroots support can be, especially when the idea has come directly from the community itself.
This crowdfunding appeal is a chance for local people, businesses, and supporters from further afield to be part of something lasting and meaningful. Whether it's £5 or £500, every donation brings us one step closer to giving Turlin Moor’s young people the space they’ve been waiting for. A space they truly deserve.
Over 2,300 children and young people live in Turlin Moor, yet there are currently very few public recreational facilities aimed at their age group within the local area. This skatepark will change that. It will be free, accessible, inclusive, and built in collaboration with the young people who will use it.
We’ve already done this once — the playpark stands as proof that when the community comes together, real change can happen. Now, it’s time for Phase 2.
Let’s build the skatepark. Let’s do this togeth
er.
The space we’ve chosen for the Turlin Moor skatepark is a disused patch of land that has sat empty for over 20 years, the former site of a community centre and car park. Right now, it’s an unloved area in the heart of the estate, but it holds huge potential to become something positive and exciting for local people.
Turlin Moor is one of the most deprived areas in the BCP region, with a high number of children and young people, but very few free, local spaces where they can gather, play or just be themselves. Public transport is expensive, and many families don’t have easy access to cars so having a safe, vibrant, youth-friendly space right on their doorstep would be genuinely life-changing.
The proposed site is in a perfect location — right in the centre of the estate, a short walk from the local shops and school. It’s also just a 10-minute walk from Hamworthy train station, and on a main bus route, meaning it will be easy to access for people living outside the area too.
With full backing from the local council and all necessary surveys complete, we’re ready to transform this long-forgotten site into something Turlin Moor can be proud of. A place full of energy and positive community activity.
The impact of a skatepark reaches far beyond the concrete, it has the power to transform a community. In towns and cities across the UK, skateparks have been shown to reduce anti-social behaviour, provide a positive outlet for energy and creativity, and offer a welcoming, inclusive space where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect. Research by Skateboard GB and projects like the Farraline Park Skatepark in Inverness and Newquay Concrete Waves have shown how skateparks become vital community hubs, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, increasing youth engagement, and even improving local perceptions of safety. These spaces give young people a sense of ownership and pride while providing opportunities to develop confidence, resilience, and peer support. For Turlin Moor, where so many young people feel left behind, the skatepark will not only offer something to do but somewhere to belong.
All funds raised through the crowdfunding campaign will go directly towards the construction and delivery of the skatepark in partnership with Maverick Skateparks, a nationally respected designer and builder of community skate spaces. The money will support the final design development, planning permissions, site preparation, and construction, ensuring a high-quality, durable, and inspiring park that reflects the vision of the Turlin Moor community. It will also help fund ongoing consultation with local young people, community engagement events, and essential safety and access measures. Every pound raised brings us closer to breaking ground and making this long-awaited dream a reality for the young people and wider community of Turlin Moor.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
