Help us fund our Day Service groups and provide a warm, safe place for the people who need it most.
St John's Hospice offer care to patients and their families within North Lancashire and the South Lakes. We have an in-patient unit, Hospice at Home team and offer services within our Day Centre.
Covid-19 meant that our Day Care Centre had to close for the safety of our patients, volunteers and staff.
In September 2022 we were delighted to relaunch Day Therapies with a range of groups, including a craft group, Fatigue Anxiety and Breathlessness (FAB) Group and drop-in groups for patients and carers.
With the cost of living crisis, it is more important than ever that our patients, and their carers, have a warm, safe, space to visit and a change of scenery from their home environment. Due to their medical conditions ‘going places’ can feel extremely stressful and cause significant anxiety.
Patients and carers know that in joining one of the groups at Day Therapies they will receive a cup of tea and a biscuit, a warm smile and good company alongside professional medical support should they need it.
We are raising money to support the running of these groups and to be able to provide a safe place for our patients.
Dee our Head of Day Therapies said ‘The drop-in sessions that we run are so important for the well-being of our extremely vulnerable patients and their carers. Imagine having a life limiting illness which means going out can cause you anxiety – will you be warm enough? What happens if you feel unwell? Alongside the financial pressures of the cost of living crisis – worrying about being at home all day with the heating on. Day Therapies is like a reassuring hug. We provide a warm space, patients are reassured that they are in safe hands, there is peer support, a little bit of fun and refreshments!’
£6 could pay for a patient to attend one of our drop-in sessions and be supported by a member of staff
£1 could pay for a cup of tea and biscuits for a patient or their carer
£5 could pay for the craft resources for a patient to use throughout their session
