Aim: To raise funds to ensure cancer survivors can continue the life enhancing activity of paddling dragon boats on Windermere.

Who are Paddlers for Life Windermere?
Paddlers for Life Windermere is a dragon boat team of cancer survivors and their supporters. We paddle beautiful dragon boats on Windermere.

Why we need to fund raise.
Our activities have expensive annual costs for boat storage, launching facilities  and equipment storage. We aim to keep our membership costs low to enable access for all who can benefit from our activities so need to fund raise each year to meet our costs.

Our latest fund raising event.
So, on Saturday July 13th. 2024, around one hundred members and supporters of Paddlers for Life Windermere are walking across the sands of Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Grange-over-sands with Michael Wilson, the present, and 26th, 'Guide Over the Sands'. He was appointed in 2019 and is referred to as, 'The King's Guide to the Sands'.
The previous Guide, Cedric Robinson, famously referred to the cross bay route as, "the most dangerous highway in Britain".

The walk is between 5.5 and 8 miles (depending upon the safest route) and is a unique and uplifting experience.

Please support Paddlers for Life Windermere as Michael and his team of marshalls guide members safely over the tidal sands and mud flats of Morecambe Bay.

Each walker is making a donation to our funds so nearly £1000 is already raised.
It would be amazing if donors matched these donations to support our dragon boat paddling activities for cancer survivors and add to our fundraiser. Our members would be so appreciative.

Why we paddle dragon boats.
Paddling the dragon boat is especially helpful to people who have had lymph nodes removed from under the arm in connection with their cancer surgery as it helps prevent lymphoedema, a condition where the arm swells with fluid which cannot drain away through the lymphatic system. This is a painful and restrictive condition which can be worsened if a cellulitis infection takes hold.

Paddling has many other physical, emotional and psychological benefits arising from the being able to exercise within the camaraderie of a team in the great outdoors. Our beautiful paddling location on Windermere in the Lake District, a world heritage location, is an uplifting location and supports the well-being of members seeking to re-connect with life after the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
