Now we're definitely on the ballot paper, we need to raise another £5,000 to help get Siobhan's message out across the region through the booklet going to 2 million homes.
Siobhan Harper-Nunes is our fantastic Green Party candidate for the 2024 election for West Midlands Mayor.
Siobhan’s campaign will focus on making the Combined Authority work harder for our most left behind communities, be more accountable to residents, and increase the pace and scale of regional action on climate change.
What we have at the moment is just not working for the people of the West Midlands. Too many places in the West Midlands are still underfunded and left behind, and this has barely changed over the past 7 years.
The battle to save our planet can't be won if our people can't survive and look after themselves and their families.
Siobhan will relentlessly focus on how we help our left-behind communities and tackle the cost-of-living crisis.
The West Midlands Combined Authority is out of touch and doesn't look like or represent us. This isn't good enough for an organisation with a £1.1billion budget.
The West Midlands Mayor and Combined Authority area covers the 7 metropolitan council areas of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Wallsall and Wolverhampton, and is responsible for things like economic development, transport, and housing.
Siobhan will give communities a stronger voice and make sure the Combined Authority works for and listens to us.
Action on the climate in the West Midlands is too little and too late. We need action now, not future promises. Siobhan will work to increase the pace and scale of change we need on the climate.
The sooner the West Midlands rolls out a large-scale home insulation programme, the quicker we can cut emissions from homes and the sooner we can tackle fuel poverty - a major contributor to the cost of living crisis that leaves people to choose between eating and heating.
For over 20 years Siobhan has worked with charities and community organisations to support people in our most left behind communities. She knows the challenges our communities face and what support they need to thrive.
She has worked in both the public and third sector raising money and working with a raft of organisations, such as ISE (Institute of Social Enterprise) and NCVO (National Council of Voluntary Organisations), to support and empower communities.
In 2007 she founded Shakti Women, an organisation that supports women in both personal and professional development through coaching and training.
She is also currently vice-chair of Birmingham Race Impact Group, a group working for many years to promote racial justice in Birmingham.
Siobhan is the opposite of a career politician, but she is also an experienced political campaigner.
An exciting community campaign saw Siobhan come second in Gravelly Hill in the May 2022 Birmingham City Council elections. She was also the Green Party candidate in the 2022 Parliamentary by-election for the Erdington constituency.
An effective Mayoral campaign also helps local Green Party campaigns across the West Midlands: helping to get more Greens in council chambers to stand up for our left behind communities and push for more climate action in councils.
Siobhan is a fantastic candidate, but needs your help to raise funds to help run the best campaign we can.
The Green Party doesn't have rich backers, we have to raise all the money we spend ourselves. But what we do have is people power, people like you who believe in what we do and want us to help get Siobhan's message out there.
We need to raise at least £5,000 to be on the ballot paper, and the same again to run a campaign that really gets our message out there.
For example, a booklet will be sent out to all 2 million voters in the West Midlands. But printing it doesn't come free. We also need to pay for leaflets, manifesto printing, travel, venue hire and much more.
However, the expense is worth it - because, although a lot of the media's attention will inevitably focus on the race for Mayor, there are also important elections across the whole West Midlands region.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us to our target. So please donate what you can and together we can people-power Siobhan's campaign.
With your help, we can raise the £10,000 needed to run a campaign that ensures Green Party messages are heard by voters in 2024.
We're required to run electoral register checks from people making donations above £500, and if you donate over £1,500 during a year, we are required to let the Electoral Commission know, who will make this available on their website. All donations go to general campaigning funds.
