Help us provide free Singing for Breathing sessions that improve wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life for people with lung conditions.
This is more than just your average singing group – by supporting this project you are offering someone a lifeline so that they can breathe a little easier and be part of our supportive, singing community.
Who We Are
Originally founded to support people affected by cancer, Sing out Sutton has grown into a community-funded wellbeing charity which tackles both physical and mental health within the local community through the power of communal singing.
We run wellbeing choir sessions three times a week, 44 weeks a year across Sutton with no barriers to entry - no fees, no audition, no experience needed. Every voice is welcome.
In 2024 we partnered with the NHS Pulmonary Rehabilitation service in Wallington to deliver a specialist singing group for people living with chronic lung conditions. The pilot has been highly successful, and we are now seeking funding to secure its future.
Why this project is important
For people living with chronic lung conditions, daily life can be a challenge. Simple things like walking, talking or climbing stairs can quickly become exhausting or overwhelming.
Alongside physical symptoms, people can experience low mood, anxiety and a lack of confidence. Social situations can feel daunting, which leaves people feeling isolated when they most need connection.
Our Singing for Breathing sessions are there every week to support those who need it. The sessions combine breathing exercises, uplifting group harmony singing and a safe, supportive space to chat - helping people strengthen their lungs, find their voices and reconnect with others who understand what they're going through.
What our participants say
"I joined after lung surgery and found one of the most uplifting experiences of my life. My lungs feel stronger, and my spirits lifted."
"Singing for Breathing brought me back into a community after losing my voice left me feeling isolated. My voice - and my confidence - are stronger than ever."
