New stretch target
Additional funding would allow the Strand to deliver more Silver Screenings of classic movies and reminiscence sessions in nursing homes, and would ensure we can meet rising energy/heating costs for screenings at the Strand.

Silver Screenings is a programme of weekly dementia-friendly film screenings at Strand Arts Centre targeted at an older population but open to all. We have run some very successful previous seasons and have taken feedback on board in relation to the preferred duration, genre and subject matter of the films enjoyed by this demographic.
The project provides opportunities for older people to stay physically and mentally active by coming together to enjoy a social experience. The project also more specifically addresses isolation and loneliness within nursing homes with targeted activities to support residents and carers.
Weekly Thursday matinees at the Strand Arts Centre are chosen with seniors in mind but are open to anyone who loves a great movie! Tickets are just £4 (carers go free), the audience get a free tea or coffee on arrival and reminisce about films they have seen and picture houses they attended in the youth. This is followed by a screening of a classic movie chosen for this audience (MGM musicals, westerns, film noir and romantic comedies). Cinemagoers are handed ‘talking points’ about the film and the year in which it was made to continue the conversation once they have left the cinema.
The continuation of this programme is critical at this time – providing a warm and welcoming space for seniors during the winter months.
