During the last hard frosts in January, Silsden Sports club suffered a catastrophic flood, submerging 4 changing rooms referees’ room, umpires’ room, physio room and main office.
Without water we have no heating, toilets or showers and obviously all the electric in that wing of the building was hit too.
A multitude of pipes in the loft area froze and burst causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage.
We have had specialist forensic loss adjuster to inspect how this happened.
As we all know the temperatures were at a all-time low that week and because games had been cancelled no hot water had been drawn off.
Frost protection was in place with lagging and loft insulation.
The loss adjuster said we have been in unlucky; they have had numerous incidents like this the first time ever this year.
The bad news for us is we are covered for the damage caused by the water but not for replacing all the pipe work which needs a complete replacement throughout the building.
We have received an estimate of £15 to £20,000 for the complete fitting and testing of all loft piping.
It is devastating news we just don’t have that kind of money to fall back on and we cannot start the work before finding the money.
Being a step 5 football club we have had to apply to the F.A. for a dispensation in not having the teams leave their changing rooms from the designated place.
It’s been a massive blow to our Football teams who now are having to use the cricket changing rooms situated in the top wing of the building, and Silsden White Star, who we ground share with, are having to change at Steeton before and after their games.
We are in the course exploring every avenue we can to raise funds.
Any help or ideas to get us through this will be really appreciated.
We are run by volunteers being a none for profit sports club.
