I aim to bring the African print and fuse it with contemporary, day to day wear through making handmade handbags and accessory wear.
About
Shumba Boutique is an accessory brand that I created in order to bring the contemporary African print to the everyday wardrobe.
I am the founder and creative Director, designing handmade handbags and accessories which are inspired by my African roots as well as well as the global world I live in.
I specialise in creating handbags using colourful Ankara (African print), leather and any bold print that will add cheerfulness to the everyday wear. I believe every woman should have that cheerfulness.
Current Business Status
Currently I sell my products at the outdoor and indoor markets by holding a stall. I also have an online store and use Instagram which is still developing and aiming to create my brand online as well as increase sells.
My aim is to put the love and appreciation of the African print which I feel that there is not much of its appreciation. At the moment I make my products in the corner of the living room and do this over the nights.
Immediate Future plans
With the success of the crowdfunding campaign;
My aim is to further establish the business by purchasing new tools and equipments, which are of industrial type that will enable to produce quality finished products. The equipment will also improve efficiency and production that will enable me to create more time to focus on other aspects of the business which include, marketing, branding and to increase sales.
I would like to move out from using my living room corner which is currently limiting my space and be able to move into a workspace such as studio that I cam be able to more creative and also have enough room to keep my products.
I plan on having a strong online presence by developing my website so that it becomes more effective and professional so does the selling my products whilst I focus on other aspects of the business.
In addition, I aim that Shumba boutique products shows presence in the high street shops such as department stores. Through this program I aim that I will be able to get connections to the buyers that would love to have my products in their shops.
As a (social) entrepreneur, I would like to open employment opportunities to women in long term unemployment to work within the brand in various position. This will be part of the growth of the company as it expands.
