Be a part of it. Be the change. Shower up! An opportunity to be able to improve health, education & infrastructure through renewable energy

Shower Up - Changing the lives of 600 students in Kenya.

Be a part of it. Be the change. Shower up!

“The people crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones that do.”

- Steve Jobs

It started with a desire to change the world - through energy, through education and by simply doing the right thing. We’ve been doing that in our corner of the energy industry for some time, but we’re taking that drive out into the world in a bigger way than ever before!

What?: Raise funds to build solar-powered shower blocks for school pupils in Kenya.

Why?: Because that will change the lives of more than 600 young people...and on our quest to change the face of energy and, energy education, we think that’s a great start.

CNG are already working on a renewables project here in the UK, providing solar power to an innovative eco-school, because we think energy and education go hand in hand.

We had always hoped, long-term, to take our renewables ideologies and passion overseas, but when we were introduced to Will Ellis, a Management Consultant specialising in connecting UK companies with ‘in need’ projects in Africa, we knew we’d be moving quicker than first thought!

Will was able to use his expertise and connections to link our project plans with a school in Kenya. Turasha Boarding School houses over 600 pupils and due to lack of Government funding and intake pressures, some of the school’s facilities are at breaking point. This is especially true of the student shower blocks. The buildings are dilapidated and the water runs cold, meaning the children are facing health issues as a result.

Kelsey, Turasha Secondary School, Form 4 - ''You can see that our bathrooms are not only cold and disorganised, but they have really bad drainage.'' ''This causes them to flood and we get really bad skin infections.''

The project...

Inspired and confident this was the project we could really make a difference with, we’ve scoured the internet (and the globe) to help this school meet the needs of its pupils. We’ve been hard at work seeking out the best local Kenyan organisations to help us make this happen. We now have a shipping container specialist ready to fit out two incredible 40ft shower blocks. This helps the kids, but it means we can put the money back into the local economy too.

The ball is rolling (pretty fast)! Ellis Hall from our renewables team has already been out to Kenya - along side Will Ellis (we know, confusing!) to meet suppliers and get the project started. This is where we need you. On this page, you’ll be able to find out more about the rewards we’ll be giving to our generous backers, of which we hope you’ll be one!

In completing this project, we will be learning how to scale this solution, creating a ‘plug in and play’ offering to roll out to other schools and communities, helping hundreds, if not thousands of people in the process - all thanks to solar power and shipping containers.

We also hope this will be the ideal way to educate and inspire the young energy users of the future here, in the UK; more on that in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates and more news on our work with Turasha by following us @CNG_Ltd and on LinkedIn.
