We wish to reprint our successful Shout Kernow book about celebrating and sustaining the time-honoured tradition of pub-singing in Cornwall
Adventures into the world of Cornish Pub singing
“We rolled from one song to the next and pints were clinked and clunked down with calls for more: it’s always an uproarious occasion.”
This book is a result of our project: Shout Kernow undertaken in 2012. Our aims were to record, celebrate and help sustain the living tradition of pub singing in Cornwall. We travelled around Cornwall, recording variations of songs; aiming to create a snapshot of what was being sung where. 22 visits later this book and CD was produced containing a cross section of the most popular songs (words, tunes and harmonies) from Calstock to Cadgwith. The CD is a sound archive of the singing, whilst the book also provides background to the songs and singers; history of the pubs and local events.
Since it's publication in 2014 the book has sold really well and we have already done one reprint and have now sold out! We have been receiving requests for further copies and would like to do another rerun. To help us achieve this we are asking people to order copies in advance. There will only be a limited run of 500 signed copies. Orders will be despatched in early August.
‘The introduction to this book says that if you want to know where Cornish culture is then standing in the middle of a crowd of Cornish voices belting out a good tune is one of the best places to start. And nowhere has that spirit been better captured than in this excellent publication with its two CDs of pub songs’ (The West Briton)
