Opening a shop to support fair pay and representation of the community of artists/makers in St Margaret's House, Edinburgh.
Following several successful Makers market's fellow residents expressed a need & desire for a permanent space to show their work throughout the year. Thus Shop-ART was born.
It is a newly built shop space within the 3rd floor gallery in St Margaret's House, Edinburgh.
Founded and run by two resident artist/makers. Shop-ART’s main aim is to make selling and buying art affordable in an approachable, less intimidating space. We will achieve this by using a fairer fee structure than mainstream galleries and art shops, which typically take 50 to 70% of the sale price.
The shop will showcase the diversity of work created within the building and we will collaborate with external artists exhibiting in the adjoining gallery.
To establish the shop and initiate the opening of Shop-ART we require an injection of start-up capital which will provide vital equipment and services. This will cover a number of expenses such as a comprehensive point of sale system, fixtures & fittings, marketing, website, insurance and interior decor in order to lay the foundations for a business that will thrive in the long-term rather than a temporary pop-up project.
This project is about far more than opening a shop. It is about creating a sustainable platform for local artists and makers, supporting local economic growth and encouraging meaningful community engagement through the arts.
