Online live fundraising shows with all my artists raising awareness far and wide! I Have an abundance of ideas of how to get people engaging and spreading the message further potentially using other Mind Partners like CO OP.
South East London Artist Shojon, is fundraising for mental health in association with Mind a registered charity in England and commissioned exclusive run of a new chocolate bar, called ‘Shojon Bar’.
Shojon a part of the 'Time To Change' Initiative led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness is a campaign dedicated to changing the way people think and act about mental health matters. Shojon openly discussed his own experience with mental health through the TTC Champions volunteer program aimed at ending the stigma and discrimination. Previously funded by the Department of Health & Social care, Comic Relief & Lottery community fund, it was recently announced after 15 years the Time To Change campaign will close 31st March 2021 as the government has stated its not in a position to fund this campaign in the future.
Time to change since 2006 has helped 5.4 million people living with mental health problems. Research has shown the willingness to live, work and continue a relationship with those experiencing mental health issues has increased by 11.6%.
Sadden by this news yet inspired by experiences during lockdown, when chocolate helped keep his mental health in check and creativity sharp, Shojon now wants to use his music and his taste for chocolate to raise awareness and drive donations to Mind.
With a reward incentive everyone who donates gets the pleasure of getting Shojon’s own commissioned limited run milk chocolate bar ‘Shojon Bar’. Shojon was drawn toward chocolate as a means to spread awareness to Mental Health matters, having benefited from the antidepressant properties of the phenylethylamine in the cocoa during lockdown.
Shojon, whos worked in the studio with Kid Bookie, Wiley, P Money among others before releasing his own material, has seen first-hand the vast impact such restrictions are having on the creative community.
‘Venues closed and live performances have been cancelled,’ says Shojon. ‘Artists who rely on performance and appearances are struggling. Not just financially, but also with their mental health. It’s hard to see when things will normalize. But we’re creatives for a reason, so we’re having to look at alternative ways to continue doing what we do best.’
As Shojon explains: ‘My latest release ‘Theorem’ is about love, equality, and getting through hard times, all themes we can all relate to in 2020. Mental health awareness is a big issue right now, and only likely to get bigger as COVID restrictions continue and more strains are placed on the countries economy.
Everyone’s looking for ways to relieve the stress. And for me, like many, music and food have really helped. Now I want to use my love of both to help others by releasing new music and a new chocolate bar, all in collaboration with Mind Charity
You can view the Theorem video the 1st visual released from Shojon's forthcoming EP 'Greenwich Views' which takes a deeper look into the artists journey overcoming mental health problems on VEVO here:
