We have set a stretch target of £10,000 to fully enable the club to purchase the kind of roller that the club needs to meet the standards required for top-class cricket for years to come.
We are a family friendly volunteer-run cricket club located in Yardley, South Birmingham with a proud history going back to 1906, and being a fully merged club since 1974. We have a growing member base and currently have circa. 200 members including 140 Juniors across all age groups & 60 Senior Members.
We have 5 adult teams playing league cricket, a thriving junior section providing junior cricket for 5-16 year olds which includes national coaching programmes including All Stars & Dynamos as well as Junior League Cricket for Under 11's upwards.
We have recently introduced a Sunday Development team which has a sole purpose of introducing juniors to senior cricket, 7-8 of the team will be 14-17 years of age who will be guided by senior players in the team to build their knowledge, skills and understanding of the game to develop into playing adult cricket.
We are helping the club get on a sounder financial footing as the COVID pandemic meant that the club lost key funds in the pursuit of better playing facilities and equipment so the club are a few years behind where it ought to be and this fund will enable to get back to the place that thrives within the local community
We want to provide everyone playing cricket in the local community the opportunity to play cricket on well prepared and maintained grass wickets. Artificial Wickets are great for coaching and developing but we want all juniors and development teams playing on proper grass wickets of a high standard and to be able to run junior sessions on grass facilities.
We have recently invested in an experienced qualified grounds-man which has greatly enhanced our playing surfaces in recent years and we want to further enhance this with the purchase of new ground equipment.
We have the same equipment for a number of years which gas been further exacerbated by the Cost of Living Crisis which has stopped us making the necessary purchases that the club require. However due to lack of funds a lot of ground equipment has now reached the end of its lifespan and need to replace with updated equipment which help to improve the current playing area.
All money will be raised to purchase new ground equipment which is required to develop the facilities to help us provide great playing conditions for all current and future members. This will help in our long-term goal of pushing our junior players to the best level possible and help grow the cricket for adults and juniors of all abilities.
We have set ourselves a target of £5,000 to be able to get the project underway and on top of this we have set a stretch target of £10,000 which if achieved would be amazing and would cover the costs involved of purchasing the type of ground equipment that will improve the quality of the playing surfaces at the club.
The Roller really is the most important piece of equipment a cricket club has and it takes a minimum of around 500 hours per season of rolling work to prepare and maintain the playing area. Having safe, usable and reliable grounds equipment would really aid all those who support the club with giving help with groundwork.
We are a real community club and have a goal to grow our membership especially in the junior section and provide even more cricket for young players of all abilities.
We loan out our facilities for use for Warwickshire Youth Games, Softball Tournaments, Finals Days and 3rd Party Cricket Clubs and this would help broaden our options for other organisation to use our facilities.
We have a thriving youth section in the Yardley & South Birmingham Area encouraging all types of players from all backgrounds with many having gone on to play in various Warwickshire Age Groups.
