During our original crowdfunding campaign, we successfully raised £440 thanks to 13 wonderful supporters. We are now continuing to accept donations to keep adding to the Street Trees Fighting Fund. Find out more about our original plans below.
STAG, Sheffield Tree Action Groups represents the local action groups across the city seeking to protect healthy street trees from unnecessary felling. The STAG fighting fund is intended to pay for campaign materials and activities, such as print and advertising and the costs of organising events. It can also pay for any expert advice or help, eg technical or legal support, that might be needed by the campaign.
This current appeal follows a period in which our funds have been heavily depleted by the costs of defending campaigners against very aggressive legal action from Sheffield City Council, meeting court costs imposed on defendants and supporting campaigners who have been arrested and threatened with criminal charges.
As a result we are seeking to build up our fighting fund again. Through other appeals and fundraising activity we will also be accepting donations for our legal fund which is being used at present particularly to meet the costs imposed on defendants in recent injunction cases
The fund is administered by Chris Rust, STAG Treasurer, decisions on expenditure are made by the STAG Steering Group. Reports on income, expenditure and funds held are reviewed by the STAG Steering Group at least 6 times a year, generally every month.
Any surplus funds not needed for campaign costs will be used for tree planting, preferably for planting street trees in Sheffield.
